Moms should pursue their dreams! I am speaking as a mom who once abandoned her desires and put her dreams on hold. It caused internal turmoil and drained me as I tried to suppress my yearning to pursue my dreams that God had placed inside of me. This is the reason why I advocate for moms to pursue their dreams. Nonetheless, I do not want to downplay the amount of effort and energy that it takes to be able to be present for your kids, your spouse, your dreams, and still be able to take care of yourself. If you are feeling a bit discouraged, like things are not falling into place and life seems crazier than before. With this blog post, I want to let you know that we are not chasing perfect, that my life feels crazy and packed too. Here are the realities of pursuing your dreams as a mom.
It is doable, but you need to do the work.
I do not know about you, but I know what it feels like to attend a zoom meeting with my notepad next to my chopping board while I am preparing dinner for my family. Once I had to take my daughter with me to a speaking gig because the nanny did not pitch. It is fun and eventful. In the end, we have to do whatever we can to live our purpose. To pursue your mommy dreams, you require both external and internal work (that is why self-care is essential). Moreover, a whole lot of help is needed. Therefore, do not be afraid to ask for help.
Pursuing your dreams as a mom will cost you
I do not want to sit here on my couch and type lies. Just because pursuing and achieving your dreams will be fulfilling, it does not make it free. To do well and to excel, you need to put in the hours to get the results you want. Following your dreams will either cost you time or cost you money. If you are not a person who enjoys or has time to do laundry and cleaning, you can pay for that service, and then channel your focus on the things that you’re good at and enjoy doing. It requires you to know yourself and be sensitive to your current season of motherhood. Pursuing your dreams will cost you sleep sometimes. Success is attracted to discipline.
You are not going to have it all at the same time.
I’m laughing at myself as I’m writing this because if you are anything like me, you want a clean house, laundry washed, ironed and packed, home-cooked meals every day, time with your loved ones, and time for self-care. Do not get me wrong, you can want these but wanting it at the same time is not realistic. Our dreams tend to take the knock when we chase perfect. Therefore you need to be sensitive to the season of motherhood that you are in and give yourself grace. Moreover, it is advisable to reflect on your days and your weeks to see what worked and what didn’t. Life is lived in seasons.
The truth is that pursuing your dreams as a mom is not all roses, yet it is fulfilling. It requires you to be disciplined and do things when you don’t feel like doing them. You will get tired because it is a lot of work though nothing worth having is easy. I hope you feel encouraged to start or continue pursuing your dreams while you raise your kids. These are the realities of pursuing your dreams as a mom, in my experience that is. What has been your experience in pursuing your dreams as a mom?
This is definitely something I’m taking with me on this ride! As a first time mom, relatively newly wed and creative individual, I often find myself torn in many different directions lately. I then get overwhelmed and let things fall through the cracks! Thank you so much for this wisdom!
